Error: 1146 – Table ‘phpmyadmin.pma_table_uiprefs’ doesn’t exist

I recently upgraded my OS from Precise (ubuntu 12.04) to Trusty (ubuntu 14.04) . Everything went good and the upgrade seemed successful without any issues, until I browsed my local instance of phpmyadmin application. I was not able to browse any of the table in any database and every time I clicked on any table link, I got an error message stating “1146 – Table ‘phpmyadmin.pma_table_uiprefs’ doesn’t exist”.

After spending hours on the issue, I finally fixed it by using the following steps:

Modify the configuration file /etc/phpmyadmin/ from:

*Note the double underscores in the modified version of  line.

Restart apache:

sudo service apache2 restart;

and the problem solved!
